SEO for expat-hub clinics: getting found in Boquete, Coronado and Pedasí

Retirees in Boquete, Coronado and Pedasí search in English for a doctor who speaks English. Almost nobody is competing for those queries.

Published on

There is a search happening in Panama every day that almost no clinic is answering: an English-speaking resident, usually retired, typing «English speaking doctor Boquete» or «dentist Coronado English» into their phone.

The volume is modest. The intent could not be higher. Someone typing that is not comparing prices or reading about prevention — they need care and they need to be understood while receiving it.

Who is actually searching

Panama's expatriate hubs are concentrated and well defined, which is unusual and useful: Boquete and Volcán in Chiriquí, Coronado and the Pacific beach corridor in Panamá Oeste, Pedasí in Los Santos, and specific neighbourhoods of Panama City.

These residents are older than the general population, use healthcare more, pay privately or through international insurance, and stay in the country for years. As patients they are high-value and highly loyal. And their single greatest anxiety about healthcare in Panama is the language barrier.

The one thing they are looking for

Not your equipment. Not your years of training. Whether they will be understood, and whether they will understand what they are told.

This means the most valuable sentence on your entire website is also the simplest: which languages you and your staff speak, and to what level. «Dr. X trained in the United States and consults in English» does more work than three paragraphs of credentials.

What to build, in order

1. The Google profile, in English too

Google Business lets you add a description and services in more than one language, and it has a specific attribute for languages spoken. Almost no clinic in these areas sets it. Doing so takes ten minutes.

Photographs matter more here than elsewhere: someone unfamiliar with local healthcare wants to see the actual premises before deciding.

2. One English page per hub

If you consult in Boquete, you need an English page about consulting in Boquete: where exactly, when, what you treat, whether you accept international insurance, what a consultation costs and how to book.

Insurance deserves its own line. «Do you take my insurance?» is the second question after language, and the honest answer — including «we do not bill insurers directly, but we provide documentation for reimbursement» — settles it either way.

3. Get into the directories they already use

This audience does not start on Google as often as you would think. They ask in expatriate Facebook groups and they consult the English-language directories of doctors in Panama that already exist and already rank.

Being listed there is not competing with those directories — it is being present where the recommendation happens. What Google gives you is the second step: the patient who got your name there and searches for it to check you are real.

4. Reviews in English

Five reviews written in English by other expatriates are worth more to this reader than a hundred in Spanish, because they answer the question underneath the question: did someone like me have a good experience here?

Ask English-speaking patients specifically, in English, the same day. The same rules apply as everywhere: never in exchange for anything.

Content worth writing for this audience

  • How healthcare works in Panama for a foreign resident: public versus private, what a consultation costs, what to bring.
  • Whether your international insurance is accepted, and how reimbursement works if it is not.
  • What to do in an emergency in your area, with the nearest hospital and how long the drive takes.
  • Prescriptions: which medications need one, and how to get a chronic prescription transferred.
  • Which cases are handled locally and which are referred to Panama City. Being honest about that is what earns the trust.

What to expect

With so little competition, a properly built listing and one solid English page can rank in a matter of weeks. The absolute numbers stay small — these are towns, not cities — but a handful of long-term private patients changes the economics of a small clinic considerably.

This content is informational and aimed at healthcare professionals managing their own practice. It is not legal advice and does not replace the judgement of Panamanian health authorities.
